Two former World Cup soccer players, Germán Villa and Isaac Terrazas, have spent over five years visiting prisons across Mexico to deliver sports equipment, play with incarcerated individuals, and share a message of hope: "Sport is freedom."
In this documentary, we captured their final year of activities, during which other legendary figures joined the movement, including:
Cuauhtémoc Blanco (considered by many to be Mexico’s greatest and most beloved soccer player),
"El Emperador" Claudio Suárez (the captain who led Mexico to victory in the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup against Brazil),
Luis "El Matador" Hernández (top scorer in the 1998 France World Cup), and
Jorge Campos, Mexico’s most celebrated goalkeeper.
As a result of this initiative, authorities recorded a drop in violence rates inside the prisons and zero incidents during family visitation days, inspiring many children to choose a better path: the path of sports.
