Ema Leland
A faerie living on the island of Britain becomes a VTuber named “Ema Leland.” Simply meaning to prank humans at first, Ema unexpectedly ends up witnessing 700 years of the island’s history up close.
What is a VTuber? This is a term used to describe content creators and live streamers who use animated 2D or 3D virtual avatars in their videos and live streams.
What are clips? These are snippets of longer videos, especially live streams, compiled into short videos and embellished with subtitles and sound effects.
(Virtual) Clip Channel is a project by animation artist and scriptwriter Numata, with clips of (Virtual) VTubers uploaded onto video sharing sites.
The content of these VTubers’ live streams gradually strays from the “world” we think we know. They speak to you, the viewer before them, reminiscing about things you couldn’t possibly know, as if eavesdropping on someone’s memories.
These clips paint both gentle and powerful pictures of yearning, imagination and humour towards worlds that may yet exist, and worlds that may have once been. This animated series seeks a new era with new fiction and ways of storytelling.
Ema Leland is Numata’s first short film made for cinema release.
